Barnard finished the event on 38 points and had to survive a three way countback from junior Lachlan Buesnell and Cameron Butler to take home the sponsors trophies.
In his victory speech Barnard congratulated the club for the manner in which the course was presented and he heaped praise on the members for assisting, by refraining from using golf carts on the closely mown fairways.
He also thanked the event sponsor.
Meanwhile in the ladies competition it was more clear cut as Glynis Conroy and Cherrie Phillips had a 5 shot cushion in winning the Colleen Flynn & Dale Matthews 18 hole 4 Ball Best Ball Stableford event.
In other ladies news this Friday the Parkes Pennants team will contest the quarter finals of the Western Districts Ladies Golf Associations Pennants when they clash with the strong Mudgee club at Wellington.
NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR SCT PARKES OPEN
Nominations for this year’s SCT Logistics Parkes Open Golf weekend on the 17th and 18th September are now being received.
The tournament during the past 35 years has always had full fields so members are urged to get their nominations in as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
Members are also required to nominate on the official entry forms for the prelude event the Atlas Copco 4 Ball Best Ball Stableford, which will be held on Saturday, September 17 in both scratch and Handicap sections.
BUESNELL SELECTED
Parkes junior golfer Lachlan Buesnell is celebrating after being selected in the Western Region Academy Golf team.
Buesnell thoroughly deserves his selection as he has put in countless hours of practice and is regularily seen out at the club on the practice fairways, fine tuning his game ,which has gone ahead in leaps and bounds during the past 12 months, according to Parkes Golf Clubs Junior Co-ordinators Robert Hey and Justin Sutton.
THIS WEEK'S GOLFING EVENTS
This Saturday members will contest an 18 hole Stableford for Peter Dixon, John Green and Mark Kelly’s trophies in an event that has a twist as it will be played under the “Jokers” rules.
The Jokers Rules are simply each player has three Jokers and one Triple Joker during the 18 hole competition however before a player can use a Joker they must nominate prior to hitting off on a hole if they intend to use a Joker.
If a player decides to use a Joker the points they score on that particular hole are doubled whilst on a Triple Joker hole the score is obviously tripled. The result is that the player who records the day’s highest score is the event winner.
Meanwhile theladies will also play the Jokers Rules during their 18 Hole Stableford event.
On Sunday it’s the re-scheduled 2016 Mixed Foursomes Championships over 27 holes with Tee Off from 10am in an event sponsored by Liz Matthews.
