“While council is currently undertaking a program of inspections to assess damage to the road network caused by the recent rains, with over 2,000km of roads we are asking for the public's help to report damage to roads, so these can be assessed, prioritised and added to the road maintenance schedule,” Director of Engineering Ben Howard said.
There are two ways the community can report damage to roads or other council assets.
Phone: Engineering Department 02 6861 2344; Email: council@parkes.nsw.gov.au.
“We would also encourage you to send as much detail as possible, including the name of the road and photos of the problem,” Mr Howard said.
“When reporting a damaged road or council asset, please provide as much information as to the location of the damage.
“Please also make sure you provide council your contact details so that we can advise you of the course of action to be undertaken.”
Mr Howard said council takes a proactive approach to managing the shire's road network.
“Council has recently developed and adopted a 10 year management, maintenance and capital upgrade plan for the road network,” he said.
“Council also consults with the Rural Roads Advisory Group which is made up of local community members, to help determine the priority of maintenance and upgrades for our rural roads.
"Council is focused on ensuring that we are prioritising roads, which support the transport of freight and product in, out and through our Shire. Council aims to support the Shire's economy and ensure that we reduce pinch points for agricultural producers in getting their product to market both domestically and internationally. Council also aims to facilitate safe travel for our residents and those travelling within and through the Shire.
"I would like to thank the community for their support and patience with Council whilst we complete the inspections and maintenance plan to enable repairs to be carried out to the network as a result of the recent wet weather. I would also like to remind residents to take care when driving, please drive to the road conditions, plan your trip, allow extra time and please remember do not drive through flood waters", Mr Howard concluded.
For more information or to report a problem please call Council or use the methods above.
