Most local residents probably have good neighbours, but more often than not, they are overlooked, fly under the radar.

The Parkes Rotary Club introduced a scheme five years ago to give some informal recognition to these wonderful people.
They introduced the Good Neighbour awards - not to put their names up in flashing lights but to acknowledge their actions.
Most are generous but modest people who look for no reward but the good feelings of doing something for others, whether it is doing the shopping or mowing the lawns for someone who is handicapped or too frail, visiting lonely patients at the hospital or one of the nursing homes.
Perhaps they just keep an eye on your property when you are away or take you to see your doctor or dentist.
The club this year had 19 nominations for Good Neighbours and put on a special low-key thank-you luncheon (for them and their nominators) at Neighbourhood Central to present them with a small memento.
Four were also given a $50 voucher (drawn randomly) to IKON Restaurant for their efforts.
The nominees were Peter and Di Manktelow, Tim Atkins and Felicity Hohnberg, Tim Cowling and Deb Bishop, Winifred and Neville Campisi, Peter, Angela and Arthur Heathcote, Marilyn Phipps, Joan Rauchle, Fred Coyne, Adam and Bec Jones, Andrew Broderick, Elaine and Hubert Plicka, Phil and Carla Bishop, Laurie and Ann Jamison, Mark and Sharon Ross, and Shebyl Cunningham.
