More than 4,500 people travelled from throughout NSW and interstate for a fun day’s entertainment highlighted by the performance of ABBA tribute artists Bjorn Again.

In fact Trundle’s population swelled six fold for the event with the attendance figure some 200 per cent up on the previous year.

The Festival began in 2012 under the guidance of Ruth and Gary Crowley which attracted 500 people.

Today it is the only ABBA festival in the world and early estimates indicate the event generated a visitor spend of more than $1 million during the weekend.

On the request of Mayor Ken Keith, Ruth and Gary along with fellow committee members were guests at a recent council meeting.

There they received the plaudits of council for their magnificent effort with this year’s Festival before joining councillors and staff for afternoon tea.

Cr Keith described Ruth and Gary as the Anne and Bob Steel of Trundle.

(Mr and Mrs Steel were the main instigators of the Parkes Elvis Festival).

“The success of this year’s ABBA Festival reflects the vibrancy of the Trundle community,” Cr Keith said.

“If all communities were the same then all I can say is Australia would be a much better place,”

Cr Keith also expressed his appreciation to council’s events staff for their efforts in both the lead up and conduct of the festival.
