Tim Kurylowicz is an educator by trade (Museum of the Riverina Education Officer), and runs a small business with his wife Sophie.
They live in North Wagga Wagga with their 14 month old son Eddie.
In 2012 their home was inundated by flooding of the Murrumbidgee River and they rebuilt, determined to stay (see their story on ABC Open https://open.abc.net.au/explore/26447).
Tim ran for the federal seat of Riverina in 2013, with a grassroots campaign focused on local issues.
That year he started a petition calling for action to provide a hospice for the people of the Riverina. Shortly afterwards planning began for a local facility.
In 2015 he went door to door calling for a local Prostate Cancer Nurse, and this too has now been delivered.
He's fighting for better services - and he's getting results.
Tim revealed the Gonski funding for public schools in the Parkes area.
“These are based on the six year rollout 2014 - 2019, which Labor will honour in full, and extend for the coming 10 years,” he said.
They are Parkes High $3,904,565; Parkes Public $2,523,843; Parkes East $1,105,851; Middleton Public $1,875,088; Peak Hill Central $1,022,216; Trundle Central $583,760; Tottenham $581,587; Tullamore $538,221; Bogan Gate $212,335.
“Private schools are funded to a very similar measure (in most every case $900-$1200 extra per child, per year).
“The Coalition's current plan cuts the 2014 education budget allocation by $29billion, which equates to a $211 million cut to schools in the Riverina electorate alone over the coming 10 years.”
Tim said he will also fight for inland rail to put Riverina at the heart of Australia's 'dining boom.'
Make sure local health services are adequately funded and supported.
Support renewable energy investment in this region to create jobs.
Stand against Coal Seam Gas development in the nation's food bowl.
Restore Gonski funding to every student in every school, so that communities unlock their full potential.
