The prosecution argues that these nine combined factors provides a powerful case against two former police officers.
During his closing address to a NSW Supreme Court jury on Wednesday, Christopher Maxwell,QC, spoke about three key people – the deceased university student Jamie Gao, and the two accused, Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara.
Mr Maxwell also outlined three critical days – May 19, May 20 and May 21 of 2014.
Lastly, he referred to three objects that were key to the Crown's case. They were a storage unit, a boat and a white Ford station wagon with the number plates BV67PX.
"These nine things are interlinked in many ways which the Crown argues provides a powerful, circumstantial case against both accused," Mr Maxwell said.
It is the Crown's case that Mr McNamara and Mr Rogerson planned to kill Mr Gao, dispose of his body and steal almost three kilograms of the drug ice.
Mr Maxwell argued that both were guilty of murder regardless of who pulled the trigger of the gun that killed Mr Gao.
"The Crown case is that both accused were involved in the killing of Jamie Gao and the taking of the drugs that he brought there," he said.
"To convict both accused, you don't have to be satisfied beyond reasonable doubt who did the shooting.
"The Crown submits that they were part of what is called a joint criminal enterprise, an agreement between both of them that he would be killed and his body would be disposed of," Mr Maxwell said.
He argued that one of the objects that helped prove there was preparation in Mr Gao's murder, was Mr McNamara's boat.
This was a boat he took out of Hunter Self Storage the day before Mr Gao's death on May 19.
"What happened in that shed was not a surprise to Glen McNamara – the taking out of the boat is an act of preparation for making Jamie Gao disappear," Mr Maxwell said.
Mr Maxwell then turned his attention to another piece of "extremely important" circumstantial evidence – the car that was used to dispose of Mr Gao's body.
It was a car Mr Rogerson and Mr McNamara were both "completely involved" in acquiring, he argued.
"A car which cannot be traced to any known person – and that is so important in this case. BV67PX could not be traced to any known person. It is the vehicle that you would expect people involved in the planning of what was to happen in unit 803, would use – something that can't be traced back to either of them."
Mr McNamara and Mr Rogerson have pleaded not guilty to killing Mr Gao inside a south-western Sydney storage shed on May 20, 2014.
They have both given evidence during their joint trial – blaming the fatal shooting of Mr Gao on each other.
But Mr Maxwell urged the jury to reject the versions each other had given.
"The Crown says on a great many important parts of the evidence – that it is far-fetched and unbelievable and you would completely reject the greater part of the accounts they give."
