But now a reunion of them has been held in Parkes.
Former boarders returned to catch up with fellow students.
One of the organisers, Vivienne McCahon (Jermyn) tells what a great time they had...
What a wonderful weekend!
40 ex-boarders travelled from Rockhampton QLD, Perth WA, Woolgoolga, Port Macqurie, Broken Hill, Clearmont QLD, Canberra, Wagga, Lockrose QLD, Newcastle, Toukley, Glenfield, Harrington, Murrwillimbar, Young, Orange, Junee and Trundle.
Sister Florence and Sister Margaret McGrath (who was a boarder with us before she joined the Convent) joined us.
It was priceless to see the faces of the girls as they came through the Convent gate on Friday afternoon after so many years.
Many stories were told and lots of fun and laughter had by all.
One of the girls has had a secret for 49 years.
She used to pick the lock so we could sneak out to raid the fruit press for midnight feasts.
She just confessed to us that the door was only ever dummy locked!
What a let down we felt when we found out!
We would like to give Judy and Colin Wilson a big thank you for their great hospitality over the weekend and allowing us to hold the reunion at The Convent.
It meant a lot to us girls as it was our home for many years.
It was lovely to see Sr Flo and Sr Margaret McGrath join us for the weekend.
It was voted at the dinner on Saturday night that we would have a Boarders Reunion every two years.
We are all looking forward to the next one to be held in 2018 at Port Macquarie.
Jan Oxley and Joy Halls will host it.
