A new model of care for pregnant women, ‘Know Your Midwife’ is a unique service which helps provide a trusting and supportive relationship between families, GPs and the Lachlan Health Service.
The ‘Know Your Midwife’ Program provides continuity of care for women, with individuals allocated a midwife to care for them through their journey of pregnancy, birthing and postnatal care.
Lachlan Health Service Midwifery Unit Manager, Johanne Burke said the program is an internationally recognised model of care which brings women central to the decisions around their own care.
“Ensuring mothers are at the centre of their own care through their pregnancy and early postnatal care is extremely important to us,” Ms Burke said.
“Our midwives are excited about this new model of care as it allows mothers to be more heavily involved in the decisions through the journey of having a child.”
Mothers planning to birth elsewhere are also catered for, and are encouraged to visit Lachlan Health Service to discuss postnatal care services.
“We are encouraging all women interested in the program to come and see us at Parkes so we can allocate you a primary midwife to guide you through your exciting journey,” Ms Burke said.
“We are also excited to be rolling the program out in Forbes later this year.”
Women who have already booked into pProgram have been contacted over the past few weeks by their midwife.
The ‘Know Your Midwife’ Program commenced on April 4.
