There were four groups of hard working volunteers at Parkes East School, Memorial Hill, Bedgerabong Racecourse and Ronald MacDonald House in Orange.
Brooke Lees (Community and External Relations Adviser) said the Northparkes Volunteer Leave Program allows everyone across the business to lend a hand to community projects.
“There was a site wide blackout for the day which allowed around 70 of our employees to get out into the community to do a volunteer blitz throughout the central west,” Brooke said.
“Our Life of Mine and Exploration team worked at Parkes East Public School painting and gardening.
“The Underground Crew went back to Memorial Hill to build even more steps for the Memorial Hill Rejuvenation Project.
“Some of the Ore Processing team and People, Environment and Safety team went to Orange to Ronald MacDonald House to build an extra-large cubby house and complete some serious gardening.
“Others from the People, Safety and Environment team, along with apprentices travelled to Bedgerabong to help to prepare for the Bedgerabong Races.”
Following a donation to Ronald McDonald house, NPM asked how else they could help and are now proud to be considered part of the broader Ronald MacDonald volunteer team.
Volunteer staff travelled to Orange to build an enormous cubby house for the children, create vegetable gardens and even wash windows and weed gardens.
Brooke said Wayne Medlyn did an outstanding job of coordinating the project.
“Wayne travelled to Orange beforehand to scope out the project and prepare all the components to ensure the building went as smoothly as possible,” Brooke said.
The task was so big that Wayne and some others were going back late last week to finish the build.
“Everyone at Northparkes enjoys getting out and about in our community via our award-winning Volunteer Leave Program,” Brooke said.
“This year we hope to match and even exceed our 1,040 hours of volunteering in 2015.”
