Losses to Bathurst and Cowra in two of their last three matches saw Parkes miss the finals after winning the competition last year.
The losses came from two disappointing efforts with the bat and captain Anthony Heraghty said it is something his side have talked about in the lead up to Sunday’s match.
“Our batting definitely let us down in the two losses,” Heraghty said.
“I don’t think it was just that though.
“We may have got a bit stale and lethargic.
“I shook things up a bit at training this week and I think the guys responded well to it.
“Hopefully we will hit the ground running on Sunday and retain the Cup,” he said.
Last Sunday’s loss top Cowra doubled as a Lachlan inter-council game as well and Parkes’ loss left them in a precarious position.
Parkes required Forbes, who were yet to gain a win in the competition this season, to defeat Young.
Forbes obliged and Parkes’ superior run rate saw them finish second and straight into the grand final and a chance at redemption against Cowra in March.
Sunday’s Grinsted Cup match against Grenfell starts at 10am at Northparkes Oval.
