Just because the region has had some rain does not change the financial hardship farmers can and do face following years of drought and highly uncertain future weather patterns.
Furthermore, Mr Cobb would be fully aware that following the local RFC office closures in Orange and Parkes they won’t reopen again, so local farmers will lose their local RFCs for good and many others permanently stripped bare.
The RFCs provide much needed support for many farmers for many different reasons, so to cut them out from under farmer’s feet is a serious slap in the face.
I’ve personally seen the great work that RFCs can provide when times get financially tight and emotionally stressed for farming families.
The RFCs provide help on a range of issues from developing action plans with farmers, negotiating loan arrangements, helping business management, to providing referrals to vital support services for things like succession planning, mediation, and counselling.
The RFCs in Calare ought to be congratulated, not cut from our region. Mr Cobb’s instant acceptance of these cuts shows he has no interest in standing up for local farmers by keeping their existing safety nets in place.
