The former Tourist Centre that fronts Bushman’s Dam has been out of action since early last December.
The property is owned by Parkes Shire Council and leased to Landcare.
Council is still awaiting a report from the insurance assessors before determining the next course of action in regards to the building.
Those who witnessed the incident said the large tree branch had crashed onto the roof of the building without warning.
Weather conditions were calm at the time.
As a result, the building became uninhabitable due to the extent of the structural damage - particularly to the roof.
The incident has forced Landcare to operate from a private home.
Whilst the building will eventually be repaired, it doesn’t mean a similar thing won’t happen again as evidenced by large fallen branches from other nearby trees.
It has also raised the issue of safety to both vehicles as well as the many locals and visitors that frequent the popular picnic reserve.
Mr Ben Howard (Director Engineering Services) said all trees within the area were in the process of being assessed by council’s Parks and Gardens coordinator David Ramsay.
“Once the assessment is finalised a more detailed report will be tabled at a future Council meeting,” Mr Howard said.
