More than 40 people gathered to share ideas on what worked well, things that may be improved and to suggest new ideas for the 2017 Festival, which will mark the 25th anniversary of the event with a Viva Las Vegas theme.
The meeting was organised by Parkes Shire Council in conjunction with Parkes Chamber of Commerce with the ambition of further improving the Festival to ensure that the local community and the Parkes Shire region continue to maximise the value of the event that attracted 22,000 people this year.
“The community feedback evening is an important step in making sure we continue build and improve the Festival,” Mayor Cr Ken Keith said.
“This year's festival was the biggest and most successful yet. However with that success it means we have to keep raising the bar.
“We need to ensure that the local community and businesses maximise the economic impact of the visitors who come to enjoy the festival and the hospitality of the Parkes Shire.
“The community feedback night also recognises the crucial role that the wider community plays in the success of the Festival,” Cr Keith added.
“The night gives the community a platform to voice their feedback and ideas for improvement.
“Following last year’s feedback event, many of the ideas were implemented to great effect this year.
“I am sure that this year's feedback will be just as valuable for next year's festival.”
Mayor Keith said the feedback session was again facilitated by Bruce Bates a local, independent community member.
“Bruce guided the discussion and ensured that everyone had their say and we gained some very valuable feedback.
“Thank you to Bruce again for volunteering his time for this community event.”
The ideas and suggestions will now be analysed by Council and the Parkes Elvis Festival Committee to determine what improvements are viable, and to prioritise and plan for those new initiatives to be implemented in 2017.
