The 14-year-old was taken to hospital with head injuries following the attack at a home on Dunbar Way in North Gosford on Monday night.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said the boy and a man were in the home about 11.10pm when two men, who were dressed in dark clothing, forced their way inside.

The intruders threatened the pair with a golf club, before striking the boy over the head with the weapon. They then stole the man's wallet, before running away.

The boy was taken to Gosford Hospital in a stable condition with head injuries, police said.

The police spokeswoman could not say if the attack was random.

Police set up a crime scene at the home, and forensic officers examined the area.

Detectives are now looking for two men, who at the time of the attack were wearing black tracksuit pants and dark hoodies and had their faces covered.
