David Flint might be at war with Malcolm Turnbull over the Prime Minister's decision to dump knights and dames from the honours system, but that hasn't stifled his ambitions within the Liberal Party.

Professor Flint, head of Australians for Constitutional Monarchy, is putting himself forward as a candidate in this month's internal elections for the NSW branch.

Professor Flint is one of 16 people seeking election to the party's influential constitution standing committee and among the 20 bidding to become a delegate to the federal council.

Mr Turnbull's announcement that he was dumping his predecessor Tony Abbott's reintroduction of knights and dames saw Professor Flint accuse him of seeking revenge for the failed 1999 republic referendum. Mr Turnbull led the push for a republic

The list of candidates for the state executive election features a who's who of party identities whose profiles have not always been lifted for the right reasons.

Take former Ryde mayor Bill Pickering, who is among four people vying to become one of two urban vice-presidents.

Cr Pickering rocketed to prominence in February after being knocked unconscious at a polling booth at Putney Public School while handing out ham sandwiches during a council byelection.

His assailant, former Ryde mayor Vic Tagg, received an 18 month good behaviour bond for assaulting Cr Pickering, who he claimed defamed him at the booth.

Also running for urban vice-president is Sutherland councillor Kent Johns, who organised the December fundraiser for Holsworthy MP Melanie Gibbons attended by former Liberal Tony "The Falcon" Atanasovski.

As Fairfax Media revealed this week, Atanasovski was on parole at the time, having served three years in jail for offering to supply a commercial quantity of cocaine to undercover police in 2010.

Liverpool mayor Ned Mannoun, embroiled in a nasty preselection stoush with fellow councillor Peter Ristevski, is also seeking appointment as a federal council delegate.

Cr Mannoun recently wrote to NSW Liberal head office complaining about Cr Ristevski's behaviour, including his association with Atanasovski in an apparent bid to have him disendorsed.

Charles Perrottet - younger brother of NSW Finance Minister Dominic Perrottet - is standing for federal council as well.

The junior sibling gave evidence during last year's Independent Commission Against Corruption inquiry into alleged Liberal party rorting of donations laws.

Former Liberal MLC Marie Ficarra told the ICAC Charles Perrottet had offered to facilitate a donation from a property developer - an illegal donor in NSW. Mr Perrottet has denied any involvement.

Bankstown councillor Jim Daniel, who works for Liberal MP for East Hills Glenn Brookes, is standing for the joint standing committee on state policy.

Cr Daniel was accused by Labor MP Lynda Voltz under parliamentary privilege in May of being behind a smear campaign against ALP candidate for East Hills Cameron Murphy during the March election. Cr Daniel has denied any involvement.

Mr Murphy's posters were defaced with stickers declaring him a "paedophile lover" in apparent reference to his work with the NSW Council for Civil Liberties.

Voting in the state executive elections closes on November 13.
