Mr Laing (PSM BE FIEAust CPEng JP) is standing for the Townsend Region which covers 71 local government areas of western NSW.
A Chartered Professional Engineer, he also holds the title of Fellow, Institution of Engineers Australia.
The election is being held from Monday, August 31, through until Friday, October 9.
Members will be sent ballot papers and instructions by mail or email.
When you vote, the NRMA will be including all voters in a ballot for a new car.
Lew spent more than four decades building, maintaining and managing the roads and traffic network of NSW before retiring from the RTA after 20 years as Regional Manager for the Western Region, based in Parkes.
Lew’s intimate knowledge of the needs of the road network, its users and the complex relationships between light and heavy vehicles has prompted his decision to nominate for the NRMA Board of Directors.
Lew acknowledges the modern community demands for safe and convenient business and leisure travel as well as freight movement.
“Particularly where rail no longer serves those needs,” he said.
During his years as RTA Western Regional Manager, Lew established working relationships with all western region councils, and also had many dealings with federal and state politicians including Ministers in the present state government.
Lew resides in Parkes with wife Bev, and his family is spread across NSW and Victoria.
He said he intends to campaign vigorously for more benefits for NRMA members.
