Attendees weren’t deterred by the grey skies and were soon warm from digging, planting and mulching.
Our plants got off to an excellent start with the soil conditions perfect for planting, making quick work for volunteers and their digging.
Volunteers planted 300 plants in the picturesque setting at Akuna Road.
This is a portion of the larger program undertaken by Parkes Shire Council as part of the 50 Million Trees Program.
We were also fortunate to have the involvement from the 3rd Parkes Scouts who are volunteering their time to work on local Tree Day sites as part of achieving their Landcare Badge.
When the planting was complete, volunteers enjoyed a sausage sandwich and had a chance to catch up and reflect on the work completed.
Volunteers were given native tubestock, courtesy of Parke Shire Council to plant in their own garden.
It was great to have some of our regulars there, as well as some new faces.
“Central West Lachlan Landcare (CWLL) have been fortunate to have the support of Parkes Shire Council and Toyota to bring Tree Day together over many years,” Chairperson of CWLL, Margot Jolly said.
“Our previous National Tree Day plantings are progressing well and we hope to see the same success at Akuna Road in the years ahead.
“A big thank you to all of our volunteers, Parkes Shire Council and Toyota for making this day possible.
“It is wonderful to join with over 300,000 people who take part in NTD all over Australia each year.”
