Last week saw a huge roll up with some great squash played. Newcomer Hayden Clark is showing plenty of potential.
He went up against two of the strongest juniors in James Ellery and Bronte O’Shannessy.
While going down in both, Hayden showed he will be a force in coming weeks.
Bronte took the first game 15-12, and with scores tied at 14-14 in the second, a long call went to Bronte’s advantage, closing out the match 17-14.
In Hayden and James’ match, James took the first game 15-7, before Hayden was able to level scores and take the second 15-13.
The decider went in James’ favour 15-11 to give him the win.
Two of the younger juniors showing promise and improvement are Makayla Sloane and Rhianna Gilby.
During their match last week, both girls were serving well and returning the ball nicely.
While the score was close, Rhianna got the win 15-9, 15-12.
James Bazman took on Marley O’Shannessy in a tight three setter.
James went out strongly, taking the first game 15-4.
Marley regathered and focused to even the scores at one game each, winning the second 15-13.
In the decider, Marley played some very smart shots to win the match 15-9.
Being the last week of term, there were two winners in the weekly draw.
The draw is to reward juniors for good sportsmanship, scoring each other and general positive behaviour.
Winners were Bronte O’Shannessy and Hannah McColl.
