Bathurst City faces the prospect of losing captain-coach Lisa Quinn in the run up to the  women’s Premier League Hockey finals after she suffered a fractured nose recently.

Quinn was playing local first grade for Kelso last Sunday week and copped a severe hit, meaning that she could be out for up to six weeks. 

An official diagnosis is yet to be given, but she is preparing to spend some time off the field.

However, Quinn is trying to put a positive spin on the situation.

“Assuming I’m going to miss some games, the good thing is that it gives me an opportunity to watch my team from the sideline for the first time this season,” she said.

“It is always a lot different coaching from the dugout than it is while you are out there on the field, you often see or pick up things that you wouldn’t otherwise notice, so from that perspective it will be a bit of a benefit.

“With my playing, the girls have done fine in their last two games without me there, so I don’t think it is going to make much of a difference.”

Quinn has already indicated that come hell or high water, she will be on the field for the semi-finals when they arrive next month, with her team expected to figure heavily as they vie with Lithgow Panthers for title favouritism.

But a previous injury to her nose means that there are some risks involved if she returns in the next few weeks.

“At the moment nothing needs to be done to fix it, it just needs time to set itself and heal, but from what I’ve been told if I were to get hit or anything in the next couple of weeks it would be displaced from its proper position,” she said.

“Going back a few years I broke it on the field as well, though that time it wasn’t from the ball but from a head clash.

“I was running across the face of goal and one of my team-mates was doing the same thing from the opposite direction and we clashed.

“I was also hit by a ball in the forehead once too. I’ve been a bit unfortunate with injuries in that area.”
