Police are investigating whether a serial sex attacker is behind sexual assaults in Sydney's CBD and Chatswood.

About 4am on Thursday night a 30-year-old woman was grabbed from behind as she walked along George Street near the Valentine Street intersection and allegedly sexually assaulted.
The man fled the area, but attacked her again near Quay Street and pushed her to the ground.
CCTV footage has been released of the man allegedly responsible for the attack.
The disturbing incident occurred the same week that two women were attacked in similar circumstances in Chatswood.
The first attack involved a 29-year-old woman who was approached from behind by a man as she walked home along Archer Street around 8.15pm last Monday, police said.
The man reportedly forced the woman to the ground and attempted to sexually assault her before he fled towards Chatswood CBD.
A second attack occurred just over two hours later when a 23-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man as she walked home from Chatswood railway station on Iris Lane, police were told.
The man attempted to force the woman to the ground and threatened her as she struggled, before he fled towards Anderson Street.
Police are investigating whether the same man was responsible for the attacks.
"While inquiries remain in their early stages, police are also investigating possible links to other assaults in Sydney," a police statement said.
While the descriptions of the assailant in each attack are not identical, there is significant overlap in the appearances described by the women involved.
The man depicted in the CCTV footage connected to the George Street attack is described as being about 20-30 years of age, 160-165 centimetres tall and of medium build.
The man in the first incident is described as being about 20 to 30 years old, 170-175cm tall, of average build, and possibly wearing sneakers.
The man in the second incident is described as being of Asian appearance and wearing a T-shirt and jacket.

Police reminded people walking home at night to seek well-lit areas.
