Council first considered a request from the Trundle Consultative Committee (TCC) for the purchase of a defibrillator at its meeting on May 5.
It was decided to adjourn a decision so further information could be provided to councillors.
The President of the Trundle Consultative Committee responded by indicating local police were usually first on the scene of emergency calls and were often required to perform CPR.
The request for the defibrillator had come from the local constable who believed it would be a great advantage for the local community to have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) installed at the station.
The request was fully supported by the TCC.
Council’s General Manager Kent Boyd also discussed the matter with Superintendent Chris Taylor (Lachlan Local Area Command).
“Superintendent Taylor said that as much as they would like to have AED devices in all stations, it was cost prohibitive,” Mr Boyd said.
“Currently there is only one device located at a station within the Lachlan Command and that’s here in Parkes.”
Mr Boyd said Superintendent Taylor had given approval for a community donated AED be installed at the Trundle Police Station with the proviso the unit is the same as that located in the Parkes station.
Ongoing running costs would also be covered by the Local Command.
