National Reconciliation Week is celebrated widely across Australia every year between May 27 and June 3.
The dates commemorate two significant milestone in the reconciliation journey – the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.
This year’s theme is We all stand on sacred ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate.
Neighbourhood Central is joining the national reconciliation effort by hosting a cultural dance and music festival showcasing some of the finest Indigenous talent in the central west.
Special guest is 25-year-old Kristal West, who took her singing dreams all the way from the outback to channel nine’s The Voice.
Kristal first caught the audience’s attention with her friend Zaachariaha Fielding on The Voice and wowed mentor and The Black Eyed Peas vocalist Will.i.Am with their rendition of the Justin Beiber's song “As Long As You Love Me” and made it into the finals.
Kristal carries with her the sheer determination of her grandfather, Indigenous land rights pioneer Eddie Mabo, and says her drive is an unmistakable family trait.
Her grandfather was very driven to fight for his dreams of having his land acknowledged as a traditional owner.
Kristal’s dream is to be recognised with her music.
She is heading to Parkes with brother Saul West where they will perform live at the Parkes Services and Citizen Club next Tuesday.
Everyone is invited to join in and unite in celebration of National Reconciliation Week 2015.
Artists also include Red Dust’s Maydina Mundarra Dancers.
Entry is free and seats are limited, so to avoid disappointment reserve your seat by collecting your ticket through either the The Parkes Services Club, Neighbourhood Central in Currajong Street Parkes or Neighbourhood Central Peak Hill.
There are fantastic give aways to win on the night for those passionate NRL supporters.
NRL packages include a family pass to the Bulldogs vs Broncos game at the Sydney’s Olympic Park ANZ Stadium in July, plus accommodation.

The event will be upstairs at the Parkes Services & Citizens Club from 6.30pm – 9.30pm. Kristal will be available for a short time after the show if you would like an autograph.
The concert is drug and alcohol free. Soft drinks and snacks will be available at the bar.
