Joanne Barrett (Development Officer, Western Region) visited Parkes where she presented Ashlee with a certificate and voucher for $250 to be spent on a development program for the Parkes Services Baton Twirlers.
The presentation took place at the Parkes Shire Council meeting in front of her proud parents Cr Kenny and Sue McGrath.
Sport and Recreation’s Central West Sporting Spirit Volunteer Awards recognises the hard work and dedication of the region’s sport volunteers in time for National Volunteers Week.
The theme this year is `Give Happy, Live Happy’ and highlights that more than six million Australian volunteers give happiness to others each year.
Research shows volunteers not only make lives of others happier, they are happier as a result.
“Everyone is a winner when it comes to volunteering, especially our communities, because without volunteers we couldn’t play sport,” Joanne said.
Ashlee McGrath is this year’s winner of the Youth category.
She was acknowledged for her patience and dedication given each week to coaching the younger members of the Parkes Baton Twirlers.
“Ashlee is certainly a great role model for young volunteers in sport,” Joanne said.
Other award recipients included Peter Jarick in the open category for his more than 10 years service to the Orange District Cricket Association, and runner-up Vicki Bowyer the long standing secretary of the Bathurst Carillon Tennis Club.
Mr Jarick also received a $250 voucher to spend on sports development programs, whilst Vicki received $100.
