Excitement levels among the inhabitants of Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo have been high in the past few weeks with the arrival of some substantial new tenants. Mum Porntip and her five-year-old calf Pathi Harn arrived in late April from Taronga in Sydney, while Thong Dee and her five-year-old, Luk Chai , arrived last week, in the next stage of the zoo's Asian elephant conservation program. "There was certainly a lot of interest, particularly from our existing older female elephants, Cuddles, Burma and Gigi," said general manager Matt Fuller. "There was lots of communication, lots of posturing."
