That’s a horrific statistic according to local Member for Calare John Cobb, who revealed Australia has one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world.
Up to 90 per cent of bowel cancers can be successfully treated if detected early.
“That’s the key here – early detection unquestionably can save your life,” Mr Cobb said.
Mr Cobb’s comments come after the Federal Government launched their ‘gift for living’ bowel cancer screening awareness campaign which aims to boost screening awareness in at risk groups.
“I encourage everyone in Calare to complete and return their bowel cancer screening kit when they receive it as the more people that are screened, the more lives will be saved.
“The kit is simple and discreet to use in the privacy of your own home,” Mr Cobb said.
“We need more people in Calare completing their testing kits as bowel cancer often has no symptoms and early detection is vital.”
