Parkes and District Neighbourhood Centre Board Chairperson John Magill said the official opening will be held this Friday commencing 11am at 87 Caswell Street, Peak Hill.
“We are very proud of the Community Hub where we employ locals, with plans to employ additional part-timers,” Mr Magill said.
“For many years this organisation has supported and helped many families, youth and children in Peak Hill, so it is truly a milestone to have this Community Hub available for our Peak Hill community.
“It could be said that towns grow and develop when they can share resources and work together for the benefit of all.
“One such resource is a place to meet, to plan, to engage, and to share.
“Our aim is to provide a neutral meeting place for community members and groups which is not currently available,” Mr Magill said.
“Our further aim is for the residents of Peak Hill to take “ownership” of these premises to ensure this Community Hub will be the cornerstone of activity.”
The Hub is based in the main street of Peak Hill.
“Our existing programs operate from these premises,” Mr Magill said.
“These include Community Transport, Teenage Girls Group, Homework Centre for students and Young Mums Group.
“Other groups currently utilising the premises are Peak Hill Aboriginal Working Party and the Aboriginal Men’s Health Group.
“We currently provide the Aboriginal Community Transport service for Peak Hill.
“And I can announce that we have amalgamated with Peak Hill Community Bus Service (PHCBS).
“The weekly service provided by PHCBS will continue to Dubbo and on the alternative week, to Parkes; with an additional service already provided on Tuesday for medical appointments in Dubbo or Orange depending on the need; and, as a social event, each Friday to the local Services Club for lunch and Bingo!”
The Peak Hill Community Hub will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and efforts are being made to open five days a week.
“We are very proud of the support provided by the folk of Peak Hill and the Community Hub’s kitchen facility will allow for refreshments to be served when required.
“Over the years, we have wanted to recognise the Peak Hill community, and to have a central space where the services can be accessed, and now the Community Hub will do that.”
Meanwhile, Mr Magill revealed the Parkes and District Neighbourhood Centre will no longer go by that name, and will be known as Neighbourhood Central from next month.
More details on Wednesday.
