Thousands of people are expected to attend services and ceremonies across the Command this Saturday (April 25, 2015), commemorating a centenary of Anzac and one of our most important national occasions.
State-wide, Police will launch Operation Lionheart, a high-visibility policing strategy, involving officers from across Lachlan LAC to provide a family-friendly environment for all Anzac Day events.
Lachlan Local Area Commander, Superintendent Chris Taylor, urged the community to commemorate the Centenary of Anzac locally and safely.
“This year is a significant milestone in the history of ANZAC, marking 100 years since the Gallipoli landing, and police are expecting record crowd numbers at commemoration events across the state,” Supt Taylor said.
“Anzac Day is not just a public holiday – it’s about remembering all those who fought, endured, suffered and died for their countries and for our freedom; we will not tolerate any behaviour which disrespects the spirit of the ANZAC.
“With safety as our top priority, additional officers will be deployed throughout the Command to provide a highly-visible and mobile policing response and ensure a safe and enjoyable day for everyone.
“Don’t spoil the day with criminal, dangerous or anti-social behaviour. Consider the consequences of your actions and think before you drink.
“For those kicking off early, show some personal responsibility, eat something, drink plenty of water, instead of alcohol, and look after your mates,” Supt Taylor said.
