Saturday’s event also acted as the first of three programmed rounds of the Frank Donnelly Perpetual trophy in a day which completely belonged to Job as he returned a solid +5 score to be two points clear of Warren Blatch. 

Blatch took the C grade trophy while Mitchell McGlashan claimed the A grade section with +1. 

In the Veterans section, Garry Phipps survived the countback on +2 to claim the division.

Job’s round was highlighted by his domination of the front nine (holes 1 – 9) where he accumulated a great +4 score to trail half-way leader Graham Cooke by two shots. 

Unfortunately Cooke could not maintain the momentum on the final nine holes to finish on +2.

At the presentation of trophies, the winners thanked members of the Droughtbusters Touring Party for their sponsorship and it was ironic that all three grade winners were members of the party.

The other highlight from Saturday’s round was Bob Barter snaring the 1st hole jackpot of 17 golf balls when his tee shot finished just 19cm from the pin on the Idlerite Tyrepower sponsored hole. 

On other par threes, Bill Warren cleaned up on the Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole at 195cm, Terry Walsh, after a brilliant 5-iron to just 163cm of the flag, won the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th hole while on the Harvey Norman 11th hole, a superb 8-iron saw Mitch McGlashan victorious at 530cm. On the tough Westlime sponsored 15th hole, Mick Smith claimed bragging rights after his 3-iron landed 514cm from the pin.

On the first of the nearest the pin in two shots holes saw Peter Picker collect on the Parkes Readymixed Concrete 9th at 228cm. 

On the Parkes Heavy Mechanical Repairs 18th, Allan Jewell carved out a birdie three after his second shot came to rest just 94cm from the flag to claim the two balls on offer. 

Ball winners from Saturday’s Par event went to +2 Graham Cooke, +1 Michael Smith, Reg Davison and Allan Jewell, Square Thomas Ward, Ian Ward, Brent Tucker, Peter Magill, Paul Harris and Steve Simpson on a countback.

ASQUITH CUP

Parkes  golfer Matt Egan continues to impress as he contests Varden events in Sydney. 

He finished runner up to Jason Hong after an impressive round of one under par 72 on the par 73 layout at the Asquith Golf Club in Sydney’s north on Saturday.

The fields in these events are limited to the top 90 amateur golfers in NSW on handicaps of four or less.

TUESDAY COMPETITION

A small band of members contested last Tuesday’s 18 hole Stableford competition that saw Josh Hook claim the main voucher with 39 points, just one point clear of runner-up Paul Harris. 

Harris survived the countback over Dan Wilson and Mitch McGlashan after all three finished on 37 points.

The Tuesday competition is open to both members and social players with a start time of 9.30am for a shotgun start. 

Players not facing the shotgun start must tee off prior to 11.30am.

TWIN TOWNS CHAMPIONSHIPS 

The annual Twin Towns Championships between traditional rivals Parkes and Forbes Golf Clubs which was scheduled for last Sunday at the Parkes Golf Club has been re-scheduled due to the course greens having their autumn renovations.

Officials from both clubs have agreed that the event will now be played on Sunday, April 26, at Parkes.

A nomination sheet for the event is located on the Members Noticeboard.

JACK BURCH 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Nominations are now open for one of the members favoured events, the annual Jack Burch  Fourball Best Ball Handicap Matchplay Championship.

This popular event is open to the first 32 teams to nominate, closing on Saturday, April 25.

Like most Matchplay events, the match index is used to determine where players receive strokes. 

All matches must be played from the daily white tee markers. 

Players are advised that matches must be played by the due date otherwise the offending teams will be disqualified.

The defending titleholders are Michael Dellaca and Brian L. Hogan. 

NORTHPARKES CHARITY DAY

The annual Northparkes Mines Charity Golf Day will be held on Saturday, April 11, with the event a three person Ambrose for a cost of just $30 per head. 

This fee covers golf, nearest the pins, long drive competitions and a delicious, continuous BBQ lunch.

Organiser Michael Woods is guaranteeing that players will have an enjoyable time. 

If early nominations are any indication, it appears that a huge field will take part in the event. Woods also stressed that his Committee have left no stone unturned to make the day a rousing success including utilising two shotgun starts with the first at 7.30am and the second at 12.30pm.

Nomination sheets are available either at Northparkes Mines or the Parkes Golf Club.

MEALS

Members and their invited guests are advised that the club’s 19th Hole Restaurant will be closed this Friday as the club recognise Good Friday.

The regular restaurant hours on Friday nights are from 6.30pm to 8.30pm with children especially catered for.

Friday nights raffles are also be held as patrons have the chance to win a variety of prizes including meat trays and Club vouchers.

McDERMOTT CUP

Several matches have yet to be played in the McDermott Cup. 

This Sunday is the final date for players to have played their Round 1 matches. 

Players should be aware that the Match Committee has taken a policy this year that if the matches are not played by the due date in any matchplay competition, the match will be deemed to be forfeited with the offending player disqualified.

EASTER COMPETITIONS

This weekend members will contest the April Monthly Medal, an 18 hole Stroke event with Telescope Tyres & Batteries sponsoring the scratch awards while Ron Dunfords Pharmacy will provide the handicap trophies in A, B and C grades. 

The event will also have the Griffins Leading Edge Putting competition played in conjunction. 

It will also act as the second round of the Cunninghams IGA Supermarket sponsored Scratch Shootout qualifying round. 

Starters are Paul Thomas and Mitch McGlashan. 

On Sunday and Monday, the club will host 18 hole Stableford events for Club trophies.
