The announcement was made this week as part of the lastest round of new service centres to be rolled out in NSW.
Service NSW offers customers access to more than 800 government transactions relating to Roads and Maritime, Fair Trading, Births, Deaths and Marriages, Education, Office of Environment and Heritage, Department of Primary Industries, Health Support services, Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing, Office for Ageing, FACS, Department of Planning and Infrastructure, Housing NSW, NSW Electoral Commission, Office of State Revenue, and more services continue to be added over time.
Mr Gee said Service NSW is a one-stop shop for all your services under the one roof.
“Instead of the traditional community perception that the focus is on the government department, the focus will now be firmly on the customer, it’s all about you,” he said.
“It is a revolution in customer service in a government department.”
Mr Gee said wherever the Services have been rolled out they have been warmly received.
“Orange is a great example. It has been wildly successful. It has extended trading hours, it opens early, stays open later and even opens on Saturday.
“It’s not just a 9 to 5 service, it has been highly popular and convenient.
“The Parkes NSW Service centre will be equally as successful.”
Mr Gee said a preferred site for the new Service NSW centre is yet to be determined.
“At the moment we are not sure if it will be working out of the RMS or a new location, but it will be rolled out sometime in the next 18 months.”
Mr Gee said as a customer who has used the Orange branch, it takes customer service to a whole new level.
“A concierge greets you at the door to help you. They assist you with any forms you may have to fill out.
“If the concierge can’t help you, they put you in touch with the relevant department.
“It’s a real game changer.”
Mr Gee said the design is also a whole new concept.
“It’s open plan, and no more grey plastic chairs, it’s a lot more streamline.
“A real benefit is the whole process is faster because a lot of the work has already been done before you even have to stand in a queue.
“No one is faulting any service already carried out by the RMS, but by bringing it all under the one roof is a game-changer, it’s very, very exciting.”
Mayor of Parkes Cr Ken Keith said a Service NSW one-stop shop would be a terrific boost for the people of the shire.
“Parkes Shire Council is delighted to be one of 34 centres chosen in NSW,” Cr Keith said.
“We would like to express our appreciation to the Premier Mike Baird and the local government for selecting Parkes as one of the sites.
“Also our appreciation goes to the Member for Orange, Andrew Gee.”
RMS Western Region Manager Phil Standen is also delighted by the announcement.
“We don’t know at this stage if it will mean more staff, it’s too early to tell yet” Mr Standen said.
“It will mean using our existing staff better.
“They had no losses in Orange, and did gain some new positions,” he added.
