This year the race meetings have been allocated to Parkes and Wagga and while the stakes are at the lower level of $1,500 per race, it does give owners and trainers an opportunity to earn prizemoney without copping a penalty.
A recent initiative on the Parkes calendar is the hosting of the people from the Trundle community which has been well supported by both business houses and families from the village which is just west of Parkes.
Sunday’s racing gets underway at 2.00pm with the running of the Trundle Services & Citizens Club Pace (2040m) and northern visitor Oscar Jay (Murray Sullivan) looks hard to beat despite resuming from a long spell.
The Jarred Hetherington trained gelding from Narrabri was injured in a race at Peak Hill last June but his form prior was very good and included second placings at Parkes and Tamworth.
His main danger appears to be Dubbo three year old Remember Kaiser (Madison Reynolds) which put together two wins at Tamworth in January before finding the Golden Guitar carnival too strong.
The Trundle supporters will be pinning their hopes on Karinya Jay Jay in the Bob & June Stephenson Memorial (2040m).
Owned by the Quade brothers and trained and driven by former local Gary Eyre, Karinya Jay Jay will find this easier than her last assignment.
She ran second here on February 11 in a fast run race and is overdue for a win.
The Brett Hutchings trained Baltic resumed to racing on Australia Day and hasn’t been far away which suggests that he is getting closer to the money.
Eugowra entire What I Mean To Say (Steve Dowton) produced a dour effort when he ran third last start and he will be suited by the small field in the Trundle Hotel Competitive Stakes (1660m).
The Pat Jones trained pacer rarely runs a bad race and will be hard to hold out here.
Blissfully Fake (Jason Gaffney) has a tendency to mix her form but when she puts it together, she figures in the prizemoney.
Another Trundle owned pacer, namely Junes Legacy (Jeremy Lamb) should take some beating in the Henry McDermott Memorial 3yo Pace (1660m) despite drawing barrier ten.
She ran third beaten six and a half metres at Parkes last start after doing plenty of work.
Her danger could be My Blackeyed Susan (Mark Hewitt) who was placed in a heat of the Gold Tiara as a two year old and then ran sixth in the final.
But that was last March and even though she has class on her side, she is resuming from a spell.
Veteran trainer Bobby Lee from Forbes must be exasperated with his mare Sure What Ever after she has been runner up at her past three starts.
The mare will contest the Kevin Daley and Jim Mudge Memorial (1660m) and after drawing gate two must surely go close.
Siobhan Shannon (Monique Parsons) followed a second placing at Orange with an unlucky fourth at Parkes and poses as the danger on Sunday.
A very smart field will contest the AG & Vet Pace (2040m) headed by latest star, Dubbo pacer Koloura Gold (Bruce McKinnon) which is chasing a hat trick of wins.
He could not have been more impressive over the mile, rating 2.00.1 and then 1.57.9 on February 18.
But this race is over the longer journey and it will be interesting to see how he copes with the distance.
The Wifes Calling (Peter Bullock) ran a funny race at Blayney last weekend as she appeared well and truly beaten with 500 metres to run but then came again to finish second.
She will make it a truly run race which could set it up for a horse like Hayes And Kydd (Jason Gaffney) which has consistent form without winning.
The final race on the program is the Harris Family Competitive Stakes (1660m) and appears to be the hardest contest to assess.
Bella Cruise (Jason Gaffney) was a well beaten fifth here on February 18 but before that was an unlucky third at Leeton and she has strong claims from her barrier two draw.
Fantasy Level (Darryl Davis) is the best horse in the race but he seems to always find a way to get beaten and hasn’t won since July last year.
At his best he will take some beating while Reign Blue Chip (Steve Dowton) is another real danger but has to overcome an awkward barrier seven draw.
