Gladys and Lex Chivers, who have been at the village since February 2014 after being life long residents of Parkes, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in the dining hall.
They had been overjoyed with the level of care received since (re) arriving, being made most welcome and cared for beautifully by everyone.
Their marriage was celebrated at St George's Church of England, Parkes, on October 16, 1954, a day of torrential rain.
Lex's brother Bob Chivers was best man and the bride's nieces Joycelyn Gordon (O'Brien) and Gayle McCallum (O'Brien) were bridesmaid and flowergirl.
A wedding reception was held at the CWA rooms and later the happy couple travelled by train to Sydney for their honeymoon.
Having built and lived in their own home for 60 years it was very heart wrenching to have to leave, but owing to circumstances of ill health this had to be.
Their daughter and son-in-law Sue and Peter Croft live in Glen Innes and recommended "Glenwood".
They have two children, Sophie and Tim, who attend Newcastle University.
Sophie attained 2nd class honours in engineering in 2014 and is currently employed at Glen Innes Shire Council.
Tim is doing his final year in engineering.
Alan and Carmel Chivers live at Berowra Heights (son and daughter-in-law) and have two sons, Darcy and Riley.
Darcy attained his apprenticeship in building before travelling to England in 2013 where he has been working and travelling.
Riley is in his final year at Newcastle University studying Primary Teaching.
He had a month prac teaching at Middleton Parkes prior to Christmas which he enjoyed.
Gladys and Lex said naturally they miss their old home and friends.
“Our hearts will always be in Parkes but we are thankful to be with our family sand in such a caring environment,” they said.
“The New England is a very beautiful area which we have visited often over the last 24 years with much counting of visits from the Berowra and Glen Innes grand children.
“We keep in touch with Parkes by receiving the Champion Post and of course the telephone and letters.”
