This, in effect, makes two thirds of the wireless microphones used by the Parkes Musical & Dramatic Society defunct.
The government has offered no compensation towards losses sustained by community groups, leaving our Society with a severe shortfall for our next musical production, and putting future productions at risk.
Over the years the Society has become an integral part of cultural life in the Parkes district, gaining a reputation for producing quality entertainment of a professional standard.
Currently the Society is in rehearsal for the production of Hairspray, a production boasting 50 cast members.
Twenty-three microphones will be required for this production and currently we have eight that are permitted.
The M&D Society are requesting the support of local businesses to sustain the future of our society.
We are asking local businesses to participate in the ‘Buy a Mike’ program by sponsoring a microphone (to the value of $1,000).
In exchange, the Society will ensure advertising for sponsoring businesses in all programs and associated marketing material over the next 12 months.
In addition, the business will receive two complimentary tickets to all productions in this period.
Any businesses that cannot afford this amount of money, and are willing to make a smaller donation towards the purchases would be much appreciated.
While we recognise that local businesses are regularly approached and give sponsorship so generously to community groups, unfortunately the Society is facing an uncertain future and requires some assistance to come up with the funds for this.
If you wish to be part of the “Buy a Mike” program, please contact Vice President Lyn Townsend at lyntownsend5@bigpond.com, or you can send any donation to PO Box 376 Parkes 2870.
