Kris is the son of Ray and Raelene Knights and now lives in Cowra.
He went to school at Parkes High School before he became a baker with local business Smeatons Bakery.
He now manages a gym in Cowra.
Kris won two titles as an observer for his wife’s brother and sister who won the Mens and Womens marathons respectively.
Skiing behind Queensland boat Mercforce with Don Gulley at the helm, Kris won the 25-30 year old Mens title to back up last year’s win in the same event.
He set some of the fastest lap times of the championships in the event, covering 11 laps of the six kilometre course in in 28 minutes and 57 seconds.
Kris finished 90 seconds in front of his closest competitor.
While this was an impressive feat, Kris’ best win was in the final race of the championships - the Unlimited Inboard Engine Class.
Skiing behind the same boat and against the best superclass boats and skiers, Kris took the lead on the opening lap by reaching speeds in excess of 185 kilometres per hour.
His team’s plan worked to perfection as Kris went on to win by 51 seconds.
Boat owner-driver Don, observer Grant Patterson and Kris were over the moon to capture the sixth national title for the Mercforce team.
They will now be joined by Sydney skier Jake Tegart and head to Euchuca for the Southern 80 ski race on February 7-8.
Kris and the team will hope for another top three finish.
