Rule number 1: Look the part; and that means cream jackets and trousers, silver wigs, a tie and suede shoes.
Rule number 2: Always talk into the microphone.
Rule number 3: Ask, 'What Richie would do?'
Rule number 4: Don't ever, ever, talk about the heat.
"If the players can handle it, we can handle it," said Michael 'Richie' Hennesey, who like many of his fellow Richies was steadfastly denying the impact of the 30-degree Sydney sun on his pressed beige suit.
Mr Hennesey and 10 friends founded the Richies in 2010 as a touching homage to legendary cricket commentator Richie Benaud, who had decided to retire from full-time commentary at the time. Five years later it has spiralled into a full-blown movement.
A group of 350 Richies stormed the stands of the SCG on Wednesday. They had their foam microphones, emblazoned with Channel Nine logos, ready to call every boundary the Australian batsmen stroked through cover during the course of another dominant batting display.
The army of beige is now calling for day two of next year's Sydney Test to be officially named "Richie day".
"Hopefully by that time we will have the whole bay, that's 680 Richies," said Steve 'Richie' Blacker.
They might be competing for space with a group worshipping a different guru, the Swami.
India's answer to the Barmy army, the Swami army, is certainly capable of drumming them out of the stands.
At lunch on day two, the two worlds collided. No beer was thrown, not a word was sworn in anger, as hundreds of beige and blue cricket fanatics danced to the beat of a dhol drum and chanted Koi Kahe, a Bollywood song about coming of age.
"I remember the Adelaide Test in 2003 when we got abused and beer was thrown at us, it has changed a lot since then," said one of the Swami army's founding members, Advait Guntereu.
The Swami army now has 5000 members across Australia.
"We got so sick of seeing all the Indians separated at Test matches, so we decided to formalise it, to try and bring that Indian diaspora together and bring in some entertainment," said Swami Anoop Kalra.
"We are just as Australian as we are Indian. We love getting here at 9am and singing both the Australian and Indian anthems with passion."
Both groups are set to unite again on Thursday for the third day of the Test.
They will put away their beige, silver, blue and orange in favour of pink to raise money for the Jane McGrath Foundation.
