Former Parkes resident, Penny Maher (nee Kent) has graduated from the University of New South Wales with a PhD in Climate Science.

Penny, now living in Germany, was born in Parkes and is the daughter of locals Robyn and David Kent.
She graduated from Parkes High School in 2003, finishing her primary schooling at Middleton.
Penny played netball for the majority of her time in Parkes and was involved in rep netball in her teens.
She obtained a Bachelor in Advanced Science majoring in Physics, with first class Honours, from the University of Wollongong in 2008.
Her PhD investigated how variability in the atmosphere affects rainfall in Australia and globally.
Her husband, Stephen Maher formerly of Bathurst, also graduated in the same ceremony.
He completed his PhD in applied mathematics from the University of New South Wales.
They are now both living in Berlin, Germany.
Penny is currently writing journal articles from her PhD work and continuing collaborations with UNSW.
Stephen is a post doctoral scientist at the Zuse Institute Berlin where he works in the field of optimisation.
