Leading home the excellent field was Leone Stevenson who returned a superb 45 points.
In doing so, she cracked a golfer’s first obstacle of breaking the 100 shots limit.
Stevenson was not only proud but the smile on her face told the story when she completed her round.
However, she attributed the score to the excellent coaching she has received in the past week as well as being more committed and playing more regularly.
In winning the individual trophy, Stevenson had to stave off a number of players who excelled in the conditions as no fewer than 10 recorded 40 points or more.
Ball winners were 42 Jack Cole, Glen Buesnell and Terry Walsh, 41 Charlie Allen, Steve Simpson, Michael Kable, Mudgee’s Zac Kelly and Jim Connors, 39 Peter Boschman and Peter Durning.
Surviving an eight-way countback on 38 points was a lucky Vince Kelly.
In nearest the pin awards, Scott Mann commenced in excellent touch as he claimed the Idlerite Tyrepower 1st hole after his 4-iron tee shot finished just 473cm from the pin.
Later in his round, Mann claimed the Parkes Heavy Mechanical Repairs 18th hole best-in-two-shots after finishing just 54cm from the flag.
In other awards, Phil Bishop also recorded a double when he took out the Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole at 380cm and the Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete 9th hole in two shots after his 8-iron second shot finished 900cm from the flag.
The Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th hole saw Dave Harwood claim victory at 586cm.
Michael Kable snared the Harvey Norman 11th hole at 120cm while on the final par three, the tough Westlime sponsored 15th hole, Wayne Tucker grabbed the spoils when his tee shot finished 233cm away.
PLAY GOLF WEEK
The club participated in Golf Australia’s Play Golf Week.
The mid-week coaching clinics were well attended and the club gained an increase in membership of some 12%.
It offered new members the remainder of 2014 and a full 12 months membership plus a $50 club voucher as a special offer.
All was in readiness for a big close to the week with the family par three Ambrose golf day, however, the weather certainly took its toll as the temperature climbed to 36 degrees by 9am and peaked at a staggering 42 by 1pm.
Despite the extremely hot weather, Sue Smith greeted the judge as she recorded a solid and extremely satisfying 37 off the stick for the reduced nine hole event for a nett 19.5, some six shots clear of the field.
In the non-golfers section, Lachie Kupkee took the major award with a great 27 nett, just one shot clear of Casey Fay-Rice with Eugowra’s James Maclean edging out his son James for third place also on 28.
Special thanks go to sponsors Parkes Sports Council and Northparkes Mines.
CHICKEN RUN
A good field of 35 players contested last Wednesday’s nine hole Chicken Run.
It was Robert Hey who led the field a merry dance as he recorded a great 23 points to take out the day’s best scratch score.
In the handicap section, John Green headed the voucher winners with his 22 plus 2 for 24.
He was closely followed by Chris Goodie and Paul Massuritt both on 21 plus 3 for 24 while Dub Rodgers recorded 19 plus 5 also for 24.
Rounding out the voucher winners was the consistent Len Archer on 21 plus 2 for 23.
The day’s lucky card draw saw Michael J Smith receive the voucher.
