The explosion, which was heard and felt in Parkes, came from a pyrotechnics facility on the Condobolin Road.
A number of buildings were alight with surrounding grass also set ablaze.
Several homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution.
Rural Fire Service crews were unable to reach the blaze, with concerns for safety due to the nature of the factory on fire.
As of last night, it is unknown what caused the fire.
MEANWHILE, a grass fire at Tullamore has burned more than 2500 hectares near the Peak Hill - Tullamore Road.
The hot and windy conditions made fighting the fire difficult with it still not under control yesterday evening.
Rural Fire Service were using all of their available resources to contain the fire, including water-dumping planes.
