Singles will be played this Sunday while both doubles and mixed doubles events will be played on November 30.
In the mens, defending champion Luke Evans will be out to claim his second title but will come up against some fierce opposition.
There are only four keen starters this year for the coveted title with Luke taking on fourth ranked James Ward in one semi-final at 11am while second ranked and perennial runner-up Geoff Leonard will play young gun Jake Magill at 10am.
James Ward will need to produce the match of his life to match the class of Luke Evans.
However, James is more than capable if he relaxes, goes for his shots and puts Luke under some pressure.
Luke hasn’t hit too many balls over the last few months as HSC studies have taken precedence.
His big serve and added power should get him over the line.
The second semi-final should be a ripper.
Geoff Leonard continues to bring his silky smooth skills and immaculate ball sense to the fore at Championship time.
He will certainly be a contender.
His match-up with Jake Magill will be a battle of brain versus brawn with Jake bringing a heightened power to his game.
Currently the lack of consistency sees him setting points up brilliantly but failing to put his opponents away.
Geoff will hang around and make Jake hit ball after ball which could prove the undoing for Jake.
The ladies singles will have three worthy participants this year with last year’s runner-up Marcia Scally returning again for the challenge along with newcomer Suzie Hill.
Suzie hails from the Blue Mountains and has relocated with her family to Parkes with work commitments.
Suzie has been the centre of plenty of chatter around the tennis circles as a contender for this year’s title.
A very fit and agile leftie, Suzie loves her tennis and is seen at the courts most days practicing and playing.
Marcia would be one of the fittest over 35s in town and is well known for her competency at most sports and her competitive nature.
These ladies know they will have to eat plenty of carbs on Saturday night as they will have to go the distance if they are to bring down current club champion Helen Magill.
Helen has won the title since she was 13 against numerous opponents and isn’t going to give up her mantle without a huge fight.
This will be a battle of not only the fittest but the smartest on the day.
Helen plays Suzie at 9am followed by Helen against Marcia at 10am.
Marcia will play Suzie at 11am.
All matches are best of three sets.
If each player has one win each then a countback on sets will decide the winner.
If results are still tied, then games won will determine the winner.
There are only two entrants in both the B grade ladies and mens events.
The ladies event will be a battle of sisters Birdee and Georgia Sideris.
Older sister Birdee is pumped for a huge effort but Georgia has been improving steadily all year.
There won’t be much in this match.
Over three sets, Birdee may just have the edge.
One of the closest and most intense matches of the day will be the final of the B grade mens singles between two of Parkes’ competent juniors.
James Beuzeville and Brenden Weekes have grown up playing tennis together from a young age and both know how to give a bit of banter on the side.
Sunday’s clash will be a fair dinkum tussle.
James has had the edge over Brenden in the past but finally Brenden has found some self belief in his abilities and is hitting the ball better than any player in the junior squad at the moment.
If Brenden considers his dietary requirements won’t be consisting of two large frozen cokes early on a Sunday morning and opt instead from the high protein eggs on toast, he’s in for a big match. James will have to dig into his stored energy systems and bring out some belters of serves to counteract Brenden’s powerful ground strokes.
An upset win to Brenden could be on the cards.
Ladies and mens doubles and mixed doubles events in A and B grade are all on Sunday, November 30.
Entries will be taken up until Tuesday, November 25.
