They attended the Lake Canobolas Regatta, confident in their level of fitness and preparation thanks to coach Michael Ryan.
Michael was optimistic that his team would be a threat in the competition and he was proved right.
For each of the three categories entered, three trophies returned with the Lachlan Dragons.
Parkes members, Bill Thomas (club president), Beth Thomas, Debra Tooley, Rochelle Smith, Helen Rowbotham, Phillipa Morgan, Lois Godden and Debbie Abela were a part of the teams who paddled hard to achieve place trophies in the Womens Team, Mens Ten Team, and the Mixed Mens and Womens Team categories.
Although club members did some serious paddling at the regatta, they have a lot of fun, laughs and good times back at home on Lake Forbes in their training sessions.
It’s a fantastic group and, resulting from a story in the Champion Post a few weeks ago, they have gained five new club members from Parkes.
Some of these new members proved their true grit at the regatta.
As all of these new members are women, the club are now challenging Parkes men to go along and have a try.
They may be surprised how much they enjoy paddling.
It is also an ideal sport for partners with no requirement to sit next to each other in the boat!
Paddling times are Thursday 6pm to 7pm and Sunday 8:30am to 9:30am, except for Sunday, November 30, when the club head to Wagga for their next regatta.
The club welcomes new members and anyone wanting to go along and join in can call Bill Thomas (Parkes) on 0418 253 045 or Wendy Muffet (Forbes) 0449 744 681 or Phil Wells (Forbes) 0429 825 762.
