During October and November, more than 290 bartenders across NSW and ACT hosted a range of fundraising activities to become the highest fundraiser and win the accolade of Leukaemia Foundation’s U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year 2014.
A grand total of $11,403 was raised by Kasie, which has helped her win the LG 60” Smart TV, while supporting the Leukaemia Foundation provide accommodation to regional Australians with blood cancer.
Every $80 raised from U.G.L.Y gives a family a place to call home for one night, the incredible amount raised will help accommodate 142 nights for those who must relocate for treatment at a metropolitan hospital.
“The sheer ambition of Kasie Ferguson, who went above and beyond to support those living with blood cancer cannot go by without being acknowledged.
“On behalf of the Foundation and those who will be supported as a direct result of the fundraising efforts of Kasie, thank you,” Christine McMillan, General Manager for the Leukaemia Foundation NSW and ACT said yesterday.
A diagnosis for those in regional areas can be a double blow as acute cases often means relocating to a capital city to start treatment, sometimes within 24 hours.
Fully furnished accommodation is provided by the Foundation at no cost to those diagnosed and their families for as long as it’s needed.
The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of those living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders.
No ongoing government funding is received; therefore without the help of the community it wouldn’t be able to continue providing personalised support.
