All interested community members are invited to attend the meeting at 7pm next Thursday (November 27) at the Parkes Hospital Education Centre in Rose Street, to officially form the group,
“Previous meetings have laid the groundwork, and now we need to decide on a name for the group and to form an executive and committee to manage activities,” Liz Mitchell, Lachlan Health Service Manager, said this week.
“Volunteering is an essential part of hospitals right around Australia.
“Volunteers – men and women of all ages – play an important role, visiting patients, having a conversation, and brightening their day.
“Sometimes volunteers will assist by getting toiletries and special items for patients.
“This is particularly important for patients who don't live in Parkes and have local relatives and friends,” Liz said.
“Volunteers can often assist hospital staff.
“If patients feel brighter and happier their health will improve and they will return home and resume their normal life more quickly.”
Lachlan Health Council member Carolyn Rice encourages young and old to come to next week’s meeting.
“All volunteers will contribute to our new hospital, and will ensure that the new hospital to open in early 2016 is as valued by everyone as much as our current hospital,” she said.
“I encourage anyone who has already been to one of our meetings or who thinks they can contribute in a small way to come and support the formation of our hospital volunteer group.”
