The fire started in a stubble paddock on the property 'Mountain View', on Mamre Road, Alectown.
Ironically it was the same paddocks that were burnt today as those that were part of a fire that devastated large areas of property surrounding Alectown a decade ago.
10 Rural Fires Service and local firefighting units were quickly on the scene, along with a chopper and a fixed wing plane.
The chopper worked continuously - dumping a couple of thousand litres of dam water on the fire every few minutes.
The blaze was almost contained to the stubble paddock before a change in wind direction saw it leap the fence into the adjacent paddock of unharvested wheat.
Early reports indicate more than 150 acres of crop have been lost.
Property owners Peter and Toni Unger are very grateful for the help of their family, neighbours and fire services.
When the fire started at 4pm, Mr Unger was travelling home from Yeoval.
"He was really frustrated, he just wanted to get home and he had to stop for road works," Mrs Unger said.
"We are just so grateful that so many people came so quickly to help."
