Condobolin Branch played host to the 85th annual conference for the Oxley Group of the Country Women’s Association, held at the impressive Wiradjuri Study Centre.

Oxley Group comprises of branches of Forbes, Parkes, Condobolin, Tottenham, Trundle, Peak Hill, Tullamore, Bedgerebong, Kiacatoo, Myamley, Burthong, Bogan Gate, and Forbes Evening.
The morning began with the meet and greet cup of tea as visitors and delegates arrived before the business end of Conference chaired by Patrisha Hurley OAM started.
Visitors were welcomed from surrounding Groups of Murrumbidge-Lachlan, Central West, Far Western, Macquarie and South West
Mr Mark Coulton, Member for Parkes, was also a welcome guest.
A warm welcome was extended from Condobolin branch president, Linda Brangwin, followed by a hearty Welcome to Country by local elder, Mr Ally Coe and Councillor Max Frankel’s welcome to the Lachlan Shire.
State President Mrs Tanya Cameron officially opened the conference.
As keynote speaker, Tanya informed the members of the states’ campaign calling for continued investigation into the existence of Lyme Disease and for diagnostic tests to be available in Australia.
The severity of this Tick induced bacterial disease is often misdiagnosed and not recognized in this country, though it is in the United States.
Mrs Cameron also spoke of the participation of CWA in the ‘Alive and Well Farm Safety’ campaign and concern regarding the continuing drought in the north.
Reports were given by Group Representative, Dorothy McDonald, Honorary Secretary Gwen Campbell and Honorary Treasurer, Roz Edwards, followed by all group and branch annual reports.
Following some fine entertainment by Condobolin “Sing Australia” group, Ally Coe escorted all present on a tour of the Wiradjuri Study Centre, a beautiful area well worth a visit.
All were refreshed by a wonderful lunch prepared by the Condobolin branch members before the afternoon session.
The new committee for the coming year was elected as follows:

Our patron is Mrs May Collier of Trundle.
The presentation of trophies followed with best average attendance at meetings, Myamley branch; increased membership, Forbes Evening branch; international work, Bedgerabong; wool work and handicraft report Trundle; publicity Bogan Gate; cultural report, Bedgerabong; floral arrangement award, Bedgerabong.
Branch members are to be congratulated on the work they do within their various interests throughout the year.
As the 2014 conference came to a close, members look forward to many more achievements as the Country Women’s Association endeavours to enrich the lives of country women everywhere.
