Foodservice Central (FSC) started out in Parkes back in 1977 and has developed into a major food distributor throughout regional NSW, employing more than 80 staff.
National distributor PFD Foodservices Pty Ltd (PFD) has acquired the business and engaged current General Manager, Anthony Ruzgas, to continue to run FSC with little change.
All 30 local staff, including Dwyers Butchery, will be retained.
The other sites in Bathurst, Griffith and Mudgee will also continue on as normal.
FSC director Greg Peterson explained that the sale was a good result for the Peterson family, after 37 years.
“PFD is owned by the Smith family who we have known for many years,” he said.
“They also have other warehouses and this acquisition improves their strong presence in NSW. “
Greg (56) and his wife Jill will remain in Parkes while his brother Michael (52) and his wife Belinda will remain in Bathurst.
They will all continue working in the family private company along with three other staff.
The family business originally started back in 1977,as H & M Frozen Foods (H&M), when the parents Harley and Margaret Peterson took on the lease at the Parkes Iceworks in Bogan Street (where McDonalds is now located).
They moved into frozen foods with Michael joining the very afternoon he finished the HSC in 1978.
Greg left his position with the Commonwealth Bank in 1981 to also join H&M.
The business received a decentralisation loan in 1980 and moved into their present location in Clarke Street.
Ron Klein and David Venables were also on the staff at that time.
From then on the business continued to expand by increasing the product range (including liquor) and acquiring other similar businesses in West Wyalong, Bathurst, Mudgee and Griffith.
The name was changed to Foodservice Central in 2001 to reflect the target market and large area serviced, almost a third of NSW.
