The aim is to have work completed it in time for next year’s centenary celebrations of ANZAC Day.
In recent weeks, the hill has been a hive of activity as volunteers and professionals alike put in the necessary man-hours including restoration and painting of the landmark memorial which is now complete.
This involved the existing paint being stripped back, the memorial cleaned and then repainted.
The raised concrete dates of the various wars on the memorial have been painted in contrasting colours so they can be more easily identified.
Working bees have focused on clearing an area of the hill to make way for the development of a `theatres of war’ gardens area.
It is envisaged that each of the gardens will feature plants representative of the various nations, have interpretative signage of explanation to visitors and be easily accessible by the disabled.
Volunteers have included representatives from the Parkes Action Club, RSL sub branch, SES, Nashos, Derrick Hoe and members of the Parkes Memorial Hill Rejuvenation Committee headed by Cr Patrica Smith.
Northparkes Mines is also actively involved in the project on a voluntary basis and sent a team to inspect the wiring and lighting of the memorial.
Parkes residents wishing to donate financially towards the rejuvenation project can do so by contacting or calling into the Central West Credit Union.
Public access to the Memorial Hill will resume this Saturday.
