Tomorrow night will see all teams move onto Round 2 matches with a 7pm start.
Wednesday night comp saw the start of another term of highly competitive matches on court.
The brisk weather saw most players start with a few layers on but as they got into stride, they had to start shedding.
A reminder that the matches are to start at 7pm.
Most players make an effort to arrive early so matches can start on time.
When there is a delay in the commencement of sets and subsequent late finish for players and especially the organisers who volunteer their time, it causes frustration amongst the teams.
Please be courteous and make an effort to start matches at 7pm.
If for any unforseen reason you are going to be late, please contact Lyn Pengilly or Helen Magill to advise, otherwise measures will have to be taken if players are consistently late.
The junior competition has a two game penalty for every five minutes a player is late.
This certainly changed the attitude of parents and players to arrive early or on time.
There are no issues in that competition now so perhaps something like this may have to come into play in the night competitions.
Services started off their campaign with a 5-3 win over Falling to Pieces.
Helen Standen and Merren Davey took a little bit to get going but haven’t actually picked up their racquets since last comp, so they could have pulled up a bit sore on Thursday morning.
They accounted for consistent performers Maree Grant and Erin Cheney.
The Services men of Andrew Pigram and Ben Evans proved too strong for Hedley Nicholson and Tim Lasserre to control the overall match and get the win.
Great to see the Dolbels back into comp tennis.
Not having played for about four years, the different muscle groups used last week and as the score card shows five of the eight sets went 6/4 or 6/5, Team Dolbel may have been a bit slow out of the blocks on Thursday morning.
TeAnau, James and Taylor Dolbel along with Donna Smith will no doubt cause a few upsets as the comp progresses and they get some of their old form back.
Pyes David Pye, Mick McFarlane, Kerry McIntyre and Suzie Hill just managed to hold Dolbels off by two games on a countback.
Cellars struggled to compete last week but it was nice to see Anna Kearney and Donna Rayner enjoying their tennis.
They teamed with Jack Kearney and Pete the Czech but were no match for Smash Hits who hit the courts running and were far too good on the night.
Ang Porter along with Maddye Potts were their consistent selves.
Dave Porter assured The Ace that sub Luke Evans hardly made a difference to their teams sizzling early comp form.
Luke and Maddye looked to be enjoying the fresh air and their night away from studies as they continue their HSC this week.
A reminder, registration fees are due please.
$45 for players over 18 years and $25 for players under 18 years.
