This was mixed with rain showers but most of the junior players were keen to continue their matches. 

A couple of matches were decided to be played tomorrow.

Results were as follows:

GOLD DIVISION

Great to see Ashleigh Ward and Laura Kirk playing comp this term. 

They had plenty of nice long rallies as well as long deuce games in their match which Ash just won 3/2.

Cassie Ward and Abbey Kennedy both played pretty well considering having not played for a while. Cassie scored a 5/1 win on this occasion but Abbey will no doubt cause a few surprises in this division.

Marites Woods is a consistent performer and did very well to keep Holly McColl to a 5-all draw. 

Holly has been on court during the holidays and Marites was determined to hit as many shots back as possible.

Kayla Swetland and Georgia Sideris had some beaut rallies in the showery conditions during their match. 

Kayla scored a 5/3 win.

GREEN DIVISION

Maticka Brown and Mikeely Birmingham always enjoy having long rallies and they would have enjoyed this last week to get warmed up on court. 

Maticka just won 4/3.

Jackson Plummer scored a forfeit over Xavier Scally while the other matches in this division were organised to be played out of time due to sickness.

ORANGE DIVISION

Kaid Lydford wasn’t real sure about playing comp tennis this term but he was doing well at school sport so he was encouraged to give it a go. 

He surprised himself when he scored a close 4/3 win over Ellen Dolbel who looks like she’ll have to work out how to control her extra power with her new flash looking racquet.

Unfortunately Koby Wirth and Lachie Plummer didn’t get to play so they will be playing double up matches tomorrow

RED DIVISION

Maddy McCormick and Makayla Strudwick had some good rallies but reported that their hands were so cold they could hardly hold on to their racquets. 

Maddy just won 3/2. 

Olivia Dolbel and Charlie Strudwick battled through the icy conditions as well to see Livvy just getting across the line by one game.

SILVER DIVISION

Only one match played in the Silver division.

Tom Winter defeated Yuan Rivera 5/1 although the score line wasn’t indicative of the closeness of the match and the good rallies the boys were experiencing.

ANZ HOT SHOTS 

Hot Shots started last week and there was plenty of action on court.

Hot Shots is a fun based, engaging program with a motto of ‘learning through play’. 

This means the players explore and experience ways of developing their skills through different activities. 

The level of difficulty changes throughout the stages. 

In Red there is a lot of concentration on being able to drop and hit the ball with control into a space. 

Once the players can achieve this and rally for 15 strokes on both forehands and backhands, correctly hitting with control and spin in the Red court, they can progress to the Orange stage. 

In Orange players are encouraged to learn how to control the ball when hitting by experiencing a lot of drop and hit rallying with each other in certain areas of the court. 

They are also learning tracking and receptive skills. 

Once players can serve and rally in an Orange court, hitting both down the line and cross court consistently, they then move to the Green stage where they are learning more about strategy on the tennis court.

Once players can serve in the Green stage they are encouraged to have a go in the junior comp where they can actually put their learning into practice and understand how to play the game.

FREE FRIDAYS

The Tennis Club continue a wonderful opportunity by offering the tennis courts to be used for free on Friday afternoons between 3pm-6.30pm.

This is a great chance for any juniors to get mum or dad, grandparents, carers, neighbours, friends or siblings to get some exercise and have a hit of tennis and practice their skills. 

There are racquets which you can borrow and buckets of balls which can be used and returned intact to the clubhouse.
