Perpetual is floating a listed investment company, seeking at least $150 million to invest in medium-sized stocks with up to 25 per cent being allocated to global stocks. Unlike unlisted managed funds it will be allowed to hold 25 per cent in cash or corporate bonds when it sees fit. The offer opens on October 21 and closes on November 28. The Perpetual Equity Investment Company will trade under the ASX ticker PIC.

Smoking gun?

Is record high mortgage debt the smoking gun behind higher property prices? Property researcher RP Data says that based on Reserve Bank of Australia data, the ratio of housing debt to disposable income has increased over the June 2014 quarter to a record high.

More low-deposit loans

The number of low-deposit home loans has decreased by more than 5 percent in the past year, a sign that banks are becoming more risk-averse, says RateCity. A low-deposit loan is where the deposit is 5 per cent or less, relative to the value of the property.

Gen Ys good savers

Generation Ys, those aged between 18 and 30, are better savers than their parents and grandparents according to a survey by the Commonwealth Bank. They have a "savings IQ" 4.2 points above the national average while baby boomers were 4.8 points below.
