The milestone event was witnessed by Member for Dubbo Troy Grant in the company of Parkes Deputy Mayor Cr Alan Ward, Mr Steven Campbell (Council’s Director Planning and Environment), Liz Mitchell (Health Service Manager) and Pauline Rowston (Acting General Manager Southern Sector).
“Construction work is certainly striding ahead,” Mr Grant said as he witnessed concrete being poured to the ground floor slab.
“During the next couple of months, 11 concrete pours will occur to lay the ground floor and first floor concrete slabs for the new hospital,” Mr Grant said.
“Main works contractor, Richard Crookes Constructions recently completed the piling works, site clearing and bulk excavation which has led to the commencement of the first concrete pour - a major achievement for the project.”
In the coming months, trucks will deliver approximately 8,400 tonnes of concrete to the Parkes Hospital site, which equates to the weight of more than 50 Boeing 747 planes.
Mr Grant said that in addition to the concrete pours, construction at the new Parkes Hospital is also focused on the installation of in-ground services, and detailed excavation and preparation for the ground floor slab.
The multi-million-dollar redevelopment of Parkes Hospital is being funded by the NSW Government.
When completed it will include an Emergency department; inpatient ward; birthing suites for maternity services; ambulatory care treatment area, including chemotherapy and dental facilities; operating suite and day-only surgical services; and clinical support services, including pharmacy, pathology and medical imaging.
