Not the only player to score 42 points in the Chris Goodie sponsored event, Ward survived the dreaded countback system after he and Ryan Thornberry were locked together after 18 holes.
Over the past two months, the rapidly improving Ward has figured in many countbacks but has never been on the right end of the ledger.
Last Saturday he gained sweet revenge to claim the sponsor’s award.
At the presentation of trophies, Chris Goodie not only congratulated Ward upon his victory but thanked the members for their support over the years and wished the club well in its endeavours.
Ball winners from Saturday’s competition were 42 Ryan Thornberry, 41 Lachlan Buesnell and Peter Boschman, 40 Robert Cheney, Csaba Belley, Richard Hamilton and Ken Keith, 39 Warren Blatch and Matthew Raveneau and surviving the countback on 38 was Brian Hogan (Snr).
In nearest the pins, former local and now resident of Mudgee Zac Kelly started in brilliant fashion when he claimed the Idlerite Tyrepower 1st Hole at 221cm.
Bernie McCabe hit a sweet 6-iron to 319cm of the Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole while Alan Jewell’s well hit 7-iron to 303cm gave him victory on the Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th hole.
On the back nine, Charlie Allen fired a lovely 7-iron to within 290cm of the pin on the Harvey Norman 11th hole.
On the final par three, the tough Westlime sponsored 15th hole, Len Archer celebrated after his tee shot finished just 450cm from the cup.
The day’s final two awards for the best-in-two-shots on the final holes of each nine saw Ian Phipp’s finish just 60cm away on the Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete 9th hole.
While on the Parkes Heavy Mechanical Repairs 18th hole, John Green was the victor at 156cm as both players received two golf balls.

DUBBO OPEN TOURNAMENT
Dubbo Golf Club held a successful Open Tournament last Sunday with 150 players contesting the 27 Hole event on a brilliant day.
Leading home the field for a three stroke victory was Forbes golfer John Betland who fired a superb two under score of 106 to win by two shots from Dubbo’s Ross Horrocks.
Pre-event favourite Robert Payne of Duntryleague finished well off the pace but was not disgraced.
Several Parkes golfers contested the event but unfortunately no player figured on the winners list.
